The Hacienda
Настоящее имя: The Hacienda
British nightclub, now defunct.
"Fac 51 Haçienda", better known simply as "The Haçienda" or "The Hacienda" or "The Hac", was a nightclub and music venue in Manchester, England, UK.
It became most famous during the "Madchester" years of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with the club being heavily associated with the rise of acid house and rave music. In the 1990s it was labelled the most famous club in the world by Newsweek Magazine.
The Haçienda opened on 21 May 1982, and despite considerable and persistent financial troubles, survived until 28 June 1997. During much of this time the club was mainly supported by record sales from the band New Order through the Factory label, as they were both run by legendary Manchester promoter, entrepreneur, and sometime TV presenter Tony Wilson.
In late 1983, Andrew Berry opened his hair salon "Swing" in the basement (with Factory cat. no. Fac 98), where it operated until the end of the 1980s.
Since closing as a night club, the venue was briefly used as an art gallery, before finally going bankrupt and closing for good. In 2002 the old venue was demolished, with the developers building new domestic housing built in its place, The Haçienda Apartments.
Employees included Andy Jackson, and resident DJs included John Berry, Mike Pickering, Graeme Park & Jon Dasilva.
