Gothic cathedral in Ghent (Belgium), seat of the diocese of Ghent. The church dates back to the 12th century and was originally a parish church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, known as the Sint-Janskerk. After the demolition of the Sint-Baafsabdij, Gent in 1540, the chapter had to move and the Sint-Janskerk became the Sint-Baafskerk. In 1559, with the founding of the diocese of Ghent, it was elevated to cathedral. It is famous for housing the altarpiece representing the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by [a2155284] and [a2155284].
