Ground Under Productions (GUP) was created in 1998 by Jarod Collard who had been DJing on community radio and local nightclubs. Frustrated with the lack of knowledge, support or interest in independent and local Goth/Industrial/Electronic music a small mail-order distribution business was created. As things grew the catalogue started to expand and include more known overseas labels which had no presence in Australia introducing what became some of the largest acts in the genre(s). A few examples would include Apoptygma Berzerk, Covenant, VNV Nation, Wumpscut, Emilie Autumn, Sopor Aeternus as well as provide local access again to acts that had fallen off the Aussie radar. In conjunction radio & club DJing continued and a number of clubbing events were also organised.
By 2001 GUP added a Label arm with the release of Tankt's debut "Despair Ltd." until 2006 with a total of 13 releases. Including Tankt, Resurrection Eve, Stark, Angel Theory, Sobriquet and a partly self-indulgent re-release of SNOG's classic debut "Lies Inc." which was a vital album in Jarod's motivation into this musical world and also included rarities from long out of print singles. Live shows and tours were coordinated through-out including separate tours in Europe for Resurrection Eve and Angel Theory partnering up with Endless Records in Germany, these included appearances at Wave Gotik Treffen and Infest.
Growing a second arm mid-2002 GUP then published 4 issues of Goth Nation Magazine which then evolved into a larger, glossier and broader FIEND Magazine, in 2006 after 13 issues it was sold onto the current owners.
Reverting to it's roots GUP returned to focusing only on distribution and webshop closing it's doors in January 2009.
