Palace Theatre, Melbourne

Grand theatre in Melbourne, Australia. Built in 1912 (and then named Brennan's (National) Amphitheatre), on the site of the older Douglas Theatre, which was destroyed by fire in 1911. Since that time it has operated as a cinema, church and night club. Formerly known as The Metro, Melbourne right through the 1980s & 1990s. Has also during the 20th century been known variously as the "Apollo Theatre" (twice), & the "St James Theatre".
