The Pädagogischer Verlag Schwann GmbH was a German book publishing house, founded 1821 and located in Düsseldorf, specialized in catholic literature and educational books. From the early 1960s on, the company established several music labels - first Schwann Musica Sacra for sacred classical music, then Schwann Musica Mundi for secular classical music, in the late 1960s Schwann AMS Studio for "progressive" contemporary sacred music and a short lived label for 7" releases called Schwann Single. In the 1970s they were adding labels for educational releases like Schwann 10x10.
From the late 1960s you'll find the company often credited as L. Schwann Verlag, in the early 1980s simply as "Schwann Düsseldorf" on label rims.
In 1988, Schwann was sold to the German educational publisher Cornelsen Verlag, while the music labels were acquired by Koch International and renamed to Koch Schwann Musica Sacra, Koch Schwann Musica Mundi etc.
