Former graphic design studio, founded in 1988 by Vaughan Oliver after his former 23 Envelope studio partnership with Nigel Grierson had ceased to exist. First continued to work inhouse for the record label 4AD, providing distinct visual identities for most artists on the 4AD roster, most prominently for Pixies, Dead Can Dance, Lush, Belly, The Breeders and Gusgus. After splitting from 4AD in 1998 the studio re-located to offices in Battersea, London where, besides designing for various clients in music, fashion and book publishing, v23 continued to create sleeve designs for 4AD artists Scott Walker, TV On The Radio and Jóhann Jóhannsson, to name a few. Later worked out of Vaughan's home in Epsom, southwest of London.
Designers at v23 included Vaughan Oliver's long-time studio partner Chris Bigg (2) and, among others, Paul McMenamin, Timothy O'Donnell, Martin Andersen (3) and Tim Vary. v23 worked with numerous photographers including Simon Larbalestier, Kevin Westenberg, Jason Love, Dominic Davies and Marc Atkins.
