Ltd. was Greece's leading independent record company with a 22% market share until it was acquired by EMI who held a 9% market share to create Minos-EMI in 1991. Minos Matsas & Son Co. Ltd. pioneered in the revival of the 'rebetiko' ('Greek blues') in the 1960s (signing rebetiko artists who were without contract at the time) and recorded most of Greece's top artists.
Minos Matsas & Son Co. Ltd. was also the local distributor of the German Odeon and Parlophone labels until 1966, when local distribution was taken over by Columbia Gramophone Company Greece Ltd. and were replaced by Minos (2) and Margophone respectively in the late 1960s. Other foreign labels that were distributed by Minos Matsas & Son Co. Ltd. at one time or another included RCA, Motown and Ariola.
