Correct designation is University of Cambridge. One of Britain's foremost universities that has roots dating back to 1209.
The university comprises 31 colleges of the university, that can be distinguished between "old" colleges (founded between1284 and 1596) and "new" colleges (founded between 1800 and 1977). Each of these colleges controls its own membership, activities and teaching. Most of the colleges have buildings near the centre of Cambridge, close to the River Cam.
