Motown Gold

Series Sub-Title: The Classic Hits Series (usually on back cover) A series of mid-80s European reissues of hit Motown & Tamla Motown singles, all featuring RCA branding and distribution on sleeves/labels. The series was released in three countries, each with their own numbering and sleeve conventions, as follows. Germany (10 singles) - released in a consecutive series from ZB 69226 to ZB 69235 (note the space and concatenation of numbers). A Gold & Black picture sleeve was used to house the single, with the series detail on the reverse (see example Twenty Five Miles / War). Netherlands (10 singles)- released in a consecutive series from ZB-64311 to ZB-64320 (note the dash and concatenation of numbers). Similar to the German series, a Gold & Black picture sleeve was used, with the series details on the back (see example Twenty Five Miles / War). The artists & tracks issued in Germany & Netherlands were identical UK (at least 30 singles) - the British series is more difficult as reissues were not consecutively numbered and used the cat. num. from the original 60s or 70s UK single. The British series was issued in a Brown custom die-cut sleeve. The back of the sleeve featured details of some releases from the series (see example Needle In A Haystack / He Was Really Saying Somethin'). According to some back sleeves seen, the TMG numbers in the British series include TMG 599 TMG 691 TMG 705 TMG 841 TMG 853 TMG 868 TMG 896 TMG 905 TMG 956 TMG 969 TMG 976 TMG 979 TMG 980 TMG 981 TMG 982 TMG 983 TMG 984 TMG 985 TMG 1041 TMG 1043 TMG 1044 TMG 1048 TMG 1050 TMG 1100 TMG 1113 TMG 1120 TMG 1124 TMG 1159 TMG 1176 TMG 1240 It must be noted that not all of these TMGs in this series have been found in circulation yet- indeed, there may be more. The artists & singles issued in the British series differ from the German/Netherlands series.
