Siemens-Studio für elektronische Musik was founded by Carl Orff with Josef Anton Riedl in 1955.
The studio located in the Siemens Zentral-Laboratorium in Gauting (Munich) was equiped with standard devices and custom built. As for 1958 was counting with the following equipment:
Sägezahngenerator (Sawtooth Generator)
Rauschgenerator (Noise Generator)
Zungeninstrument (Hohnerola)
Frequenzumsetzer (Frequency Shifter)
Schwebungssummer (BFO to control the Frequency Shifter)
Filter and envelope control (unfinished, for the Hohnerola)
Lochstreifen Herstellung (paper tape perforator)
Lochstreifensender (perforated paper tape player)
Informationsumsetzer (analogue converter for the Lochstreifensender)
Klangfilm Stereocord (4 track perfo-magnetic recorder)
Klangfilm Bandspieler (4 track perfo-magnetic player)
Telefunken M5 (mono magnetic recorder)
4 Kanal mischpult (4 channel mixer, Klangfilm, standard)
Zentrales mischpult (6 channel mixer, Klangfilm, custom)
Nachhallmaschine (Reverb)
As for 1960 the Studio, now relocated in the Siemens premises at Oskar-von-Miller-Ring in Munich, was expanded with the following equipment:
Siemens Vocoder
Bildbabtaster
Sinusgeneratoren (Sine Wave Generators)
Impuls Generator
Studer magnetic tape recorder
About 1962 the Studio was in the final configuration including:
Siemens Multirange Filters
Generator Wand (with 20 of the Sinusgeneratoren)
Büel & Kjaer BFO type 1011
Klangfilm recorder (6 Track perfo-magnetic)
A second Telefunken M5 recorder
And the two mixers were heavily modified
In may 1964 the Studio was tranferred to the Hochschule für Gestaltung (Highschool for Designers) in Ulm and there was added the Towiphon. This was the last configuration.
