Puk Recording Studios
Настоящее имя: Puk Recording Studios
Danish residential recording studio complex situated in the tiny village of Kærby, around 15 km north of Randers in eastern central Jutland.
Also referred to as Puk Studio(s), Puk-studiet (in Danish), PUK Recording Studios a/s Denmark or simply Puk.
Established in a converted farmhouse in 1978 by John "Puk" Quist, it grew to international recognition in the mid 1980's as one of the most technologically advanced studios in the world. The facilities also contained residential and recreational areas, including an indoor swimming pool, and an inhouse kitchen preparing food for the residing artists. Artists often remained on-site for weeks or months working on new albums. The client list included Elton John (recording US number 1 album Sleeping With The Past here), George Michael (recording parts of Faith here), Depeche Mode (recording Violator and Music For The Masses), Gary Moore and The Kinks, as well as major Danish acts like Nephew, Kashmir (2) and tv-2.
In 1992 Quist sold the studio to CMC Records A/S for economic reasons, and Peter Iversen took over the management. In 1994 a separate mastering studio was added and branded as Puk Digital Mastering. Iversen bought the studio from CMC in 1999 and remained the owner until the ultimate closure in 2016. The last album recorded here was The Violent Sleep Of Reason by Swedish metal band Meshuggah. Subsequently Iversen moved all the studio equipment elsewhere and sold the complex to a windmill company. The complex burned almost entirely to the ground during a fire on the night of 28 December 2020.
