SIM Studio (also known as Studio Smolec, sometimes seen also as Studio SiM) was a recording studio founded in the 1980s in Zagreb and owned in partnership by Vladimir Smolec and Tomo in der Mühlen. Studio name is an abbreviation derived from owner names "Smolec" and "in der Mühlen". Productions of SIM Studio sold in tens of millions albums of all the most influential Yugoslav artists.
During 1980s Vladimir Smolec and Tomo in der Muhlen were constantly voted as two of the most influential people in the regional music industry by the music magazine Džuboks.
In that period Tomo in der Muhlen was also a member of a band called Karlowy Vary.
Vladimir Smolec was prior to co-owning SIM Studio working as a sound technician at Lisinski concert hall in Zagreb and in 1981 started with recording on his own, first with 8-channel then 16-channel mixer, finally to have the state-of-the-art 24-channel mixer from October 1984 which was finalized with digital mastering.
