Московский Опытный Завод «Грамзапись»
Настоящее имя: Московский Опытный Завод «Грамзапись»
This is a pressing plant, not a label. For the label that ran in the late 1990s until early 2000s, use Грамзапись.
Gramzapis was one of several plants used by the label Мелодия respectively record company ВФГ "Мелодия" (please check period of production to find the correct form of the record company). Do not confuse this label with pressings from Всесоюзная Студия Грамзаписи, whose production was transferred here in 1978.
Московский Опытный Завод «Грамзапись» (translated as Moscow Experimental Plant "Gramzapis") was a Moscow based vinyl (initially) and CD pressing plant owned by label Мелодия. May appear as МОЗГ. The plant also contained its own recording studio. Starting production in 1988, it was the first and only CD manufacturer in USSR. After dissolution of the Soviet Union it became a joint-stock company ОАО "Грамзапись". It was the largest producer of pirated discs in the post-Soviet period until it closed in the mid-2000s.
