Césars Palace, Luton

Césars Palace -or- Cesar's Palace in Skimpot Road, Luton, Bedfordshire claimed the title of UK nightclub of the year for many years, and although it didn't survive into the 21st century there are many people in South Beds who still foster fond memories of the glitzy nights they spent there in their youth. On the club's opening night - October 6, 1966 - everyone serving wore white togas and there were lions on chains walking around the club. But there was panic behind the scenes - the club was barely ready on time and the builders were still finishing it off as opening night star Bob Monkhouse prepared for his performance.
