See also: Starr Gennett. Starr was a mostly Canadian label pressed and distributed by The Compo Company Ltd. for The Starr Piano Co. of Richmond, Indiana, which was also the parent company of the better known American Gennett Records label.
The company's first offerings were vertical cut disc records in the mid 1910s, based on Edison Records standard found in the Edison Disc Record. They were discontinued in 1917. The Starr label was continued through much of the 1920s in Canada, mostly issuing their sides that were released in the United States on Gennett.
