Studios 301

The Studios 301 group at one time had 5 studio complexes across the world: 301 Studios, Sydney (the Alexandria location), Studios 301, Sydney (Castlereagh St, Sydney, location), Studios 301, Byron Bay closed 2015, Studios 301, Stockholm, and Studios 301, Cologne. If the actual studio location is known, and the submission was recorded or mastered in 1999 onwards, please use one of these studio entries, noting the following: - For Australian recordings listed as being recorded, mixed or mastered at Studios 301 (Sydney) between 1952 and 1999, please use EMI Studios 301. - For Sydney recording and mixing listed as occurring from November 1999 onwards, and Australian mastering occurring from 2006 onwards, please use 301 Studios, Sydney. - For Australian mastering listed as occurring between November 1999 and 2006, please use Studios 301, Sydney. The Sydney recording studios of Studios 301 began operations in 1928 in Homebush in western Sydney, before moving to 301 Castlereagh St, Sydney in 1954 under the ownership of EMI. The recording studios relocated to Alexandria (an inner Sydney suburb) in 1999, after the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) group of companies, headed by Tom Misner, bought them (as well as Soundtrade Studios in Stockholm) from EMI. The 301 Castlereagh St location also provided mastering facilities until 2006, when they too were moved to Alexandria. The Australian-based education company Navitas bought SAE in 2010, but Tom Misner retained ownership of the Australian studios under the Studios 301 name. SAE continues to operate the Stockholm studio, which has reverted to its former name of Soundtrade Studios.
