Jewel
Настоящее имя: Jewel
Independent Hollywood-based record label, launched in 1945 by Ben Pollack. Pollack hired Henry Stone as the A&R manager of the label. Stone eventually left Jewel to join Modern Records (2).
The label was active between 1945 and 1948. It released jazz and pop music by Kay Starr, Betty Bradley, and Bob Graham but was best-known for a series of releases by a progressive and controversial swing band, Boyd Raeburn And His Orchestra. In October 1946, Jewel added a "race" series, its Onyx Series with Numa Lee Davis and Russell Jacquet.
In July 1947, Pollack unsuccessfully negotiated with Columbia to buy his label. In May 1951, he finally sold the label's entire catalog to Savoy Records, which reissued the Boyd Raeburn recordings, starting in June 1951.
