La Butte À Mathieu

Founded in 1959 by Gilles Mathieu, "La Butte À Mathieu", famous Val-David coffee house (boîte à chansons) presented all those who, in the effervescent Quebec of the time, took the floor to “tell the country”. Like Félix Leclerc and [a647108] ... the same evening, in 1961. More than a stage, "La Butte" was, until it closed in 1976, a meeting place for Montreal bohemians, a melting pot where song and theater, jazz and poetry mingled, a must for anyone who aspires to make a name for himself in Quebec. It went bankrupt in 1974 and was later transformed into a summer theatre.
