History
Nordjysk Musikkonservatorium (NM) was founded in 1930 as "Det Jydske Musikkonservatorium, Aalborg" by Johan Nilsson and his wife Magda le Maire just three years after they had founded "Det Jydske Musikkonservatorium" in Aarhus. The conservatory in Aalborg began under small conditions in Prinsensgade and Nilsson led the institution from Aarhus with regular visits and inspections in Aalborg. In 1932 the teachers' college jointly bought the conservatory from Nilsson. In 1956 NM moved to better premises in a villa on Hobrovej 7. In 1965 they moved temporarily to four single-level houses on Plantevej, and, in 1969, to Sohngaardsholm Slot, Borgmester Jørgensens Vej 1.
So far NM had been a self-owned institution, but in 1972 it was taken over by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. In 1981 the Ministry found new and more suitable premises at Ryesgades Skole, owned by Aalborg municipality.
After a long history with problems finding suitable premises, and after the merge with "Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium" in Aarhus" in 2010, the Academy moved into new and modern premises on the waterfront in the newly built Musikkens Hus, Musikkens Plads 1, in the summer 2013.
