Spanish opera house located in Sevilla, near Torre del Oro. Although the Teatro de la Maestranza is mainly devoted to opera, there are also performances of Zarzuela (Spanish operetta) and other musical performances. The theatre was conceived to be one of the main cultural venues of the Seville Expo '92 and the first performance took place in 1991, shortly before the inauguration of the Universal Exposition. The theatre was refurbished in 2005. Sala Manuel García is a small hall for small format works.
The resident orchestra is Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla (ROSS) and the current artistic director is Pedro Halffter.
The resident chorus is Coro del Teatro de la Maestranza
Also is the home of the Choir of the Friends' Society of the Maestranza Theatre.
