US label and record company founded in 1970 by Jack Renner, Advent Records was a small record label out of Cleveland, OH specializing in Classical recordings. A 1976 lawsuit from the parent company of loudspeaker manufacturer Advent Corporation forced a name change. Renner and his partner Robert Woods (2) came up with a name that combined the latin for "far away from" (tel) with the initials of the former Advent Record Company - and thus was born Telarc.
