Roxy Theatre in New York City, a.k.a. "The Cathedral of Motion Pictures."
Just off Times Square, the Roxy Theatre on 153 West 50th Street in New York City opened on March 11, 1927. It had a capacity of 5,920 seats and featured a large Kimball organ in the main theater, controlled by three consoles in the orchestra pit. The chief organist, Lew White, would play the five-manual console in the center, while Emil Velazco and Dr. C. A. J. Parmentier played the two flanking three-manual consoles. The pit itself could accommodate 110 musicians.
In 1927, Brunswick used the theater for several organ recordings by Lew White.
The theater was torn down in 1960.
