The Schweizerische Nationalphonothek (Swiss National Sound Archives) is the sound archive of Switzerland, based in Lugano. It is dedicated to the country's sounding cultural assets and is responsible for safeguarding the sound heritage of the country. The Swiss National Sound Archives collects and documents sound recordings whose content relates to the history and culture of Switzerland, both musical and spoken documents.
It was established in 1987 as a foundation under private law. In 2007 it was renamed from "Schweizer Landesphonothek" to "Schweizer [I]National[/I]phonothek". The foundation was dissolved in January 2016 and the sound archive was incorporated into the Federal Office of Culture (Bundesamt für Kultur) as the "Swiss National Sound Archives Section" within the Swiss National Library (Schweizerische Nationalbibliothek).
