The company was incorporated under that name in July 1999, by amalgamation of Universal Studios Canada Ltd., Polygram Canada Inc. and Universal Studios Filmed Entertainment Canada Inc. Universal Music is a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal, a global media and communications company for the digital age, with five communications units including TV and Film, Publishing, Music, Internet and Telecoms, and Environment.
