Overview
Bath Spa University is a public university in Bath, England, with its main campus at Newton Park. The university has other campuses in the city of Bath, and one at Corsham Court in Wiltshire; the Newton Park campus is the largest of the university's three main campuses. It is here that courses from all schools are taught, with the exception of Art and Design and most post-graduate courses. The campus is in Newton Park, in grounds designed by English landscape architect Lancelot "Capability" Brown and leased from the Duchy of Cornwall. The university has played a prevalent part in education within the music and sound production industry, with one of the longest running music technology courses in the country.
Alumni
Notable alumni from the university include Emika (electronic musician with releases on Ninja Tune and Resident Advisor), Fred V & Grafix (drum and bass duo made up of Fred Vahrman and Josh "Grafix" Jackson, with releases on Hospital Records and remixes released on UKF Music), and Mary Berry (food writer, and ex-presenter of 'The Great British Bake Off').
Technology and Facilities
The university has many creative facilities; in terms of music production, the Newton Park campus features five recording studios (each built around Pro Tools HD setups), and five rehearsal rooms. The recording studios also feature systems built by TL Audio, including two large analogue mixing desks. According to some sources, there was a 'hardware room' on the Newton Park campus featuring various analogue electronic instruments, including a Roland Juno synth, and a Behringer TD-3 synthesiser, however due to hygiene risks of using the equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic, this room has been temporarily dismantled. Additionally, they offer nine video-editing suits, several mixing suits, and two TV studios, allowing a great deal of a music project's creative process to be done completely at the university.
