Austrian radio channel for pop music, formed in 1967
Started as fresh channel for young people, Ö3 today is the most listened radio station of the country with around 2,5 Million listeners/day. From 1967 till 1979 Ernst Grissemann was program director who set the base for the station's success up to this day. They also broadcast the Austrian charts and release various compilations of pop music such as Ö3 Greatest Hits or Ö3 Zeitreise.
From 1967 to 1995, Ö3 was also broadcasting alternative programs besides mainstream culture such as Ö3 Musicbox which all got restructured into an own alternative radio channel called Radio FM4, starting January 16, 1995. From 1971 to the late 1980s Paul Polansky served as program director who also built up and led the ORF Jazz editorial staff.
