Started and reclaimed by Charles II after the dissolution of monarchy by Oliver Cromwell (1658), the collection is housed in a number of Royal residencies including the State Rooms, The Queen's Gallery and Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Clarence House and many others.
It is the largest private art collection in the world consisting of over a million items and valued at an estimated £8bn.
