Argentinean general store, record store and record company. Established in 1883 by Lorenzo Chaves (1854-1928) & Alfredo Gath (1852-1936), it was the first independent record company in the country. In 1908 Gath & Chaves becomes an S.A. and franchises on Chile in 1910. The company sold grammophones and fonographs, and published it's own records on top of importing or sending to press records from the labels Homokord of Homophon Company G.M.B.H. since 1908.
First pubilshed records are around 1909, and circa 200 records were produced. Artists were sent to record in Paris, France. Chiefly 3 artists recorded for Gath & Chaves: The duo Alfredo Eusebio Gobbi & Flora Gobbi, Carlo Albani and the dúo Albani-Costa and recordings of the Musique De La Garde Républicaine. There is also an unidentified argentine popular music orchestra.
