Activision, Inc.

Founded in 1979 as Activision, Inc.. After a management shift in 1988 it was renamed Mediagenic. After falling into debt and being bought out by investors in 1991 it was renamed back to Activision, Inc. In 2000 Activision reorganized as a holding company to manage Activision and its subsidiaries more effectively. Activision changed its corporate name from Activision, Inc. to Activision Publishing, Inc., while Activision Holdings took Activision's former Activision, Inc. name. Activision Publishing became a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision, which in turn became the publicly traded company. In 2008 Activision, Inc. merged with Vivendi Games and became Activision Blizzard. Activision Publishing remains a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard following the merger.
