The Luxurama Theatre, originally commissioned by the Quibell brothers, was opened by Ronnie Quibell in 1964. In its heyday during apartheid the "Lux" was reputedly the first theatre to play to mixed audiences in South Africa.
Host to local pop stars such as the late Robbie Jansen, the late Taliep Petersen, The Rockets and Pacific Express bands, plus Durban group The Flames it also featured International singers such as Tom Jones, Percy Sledge, Engelbert Humperdinck, and the Peaches and Herb duo.
