The Academy of Educational Sciences of the GDR (APW) in East Berlin existed from 15 September 1970 to 31 December 1990 as a non-university research institution for educational issues. On the basis of Marxism-Leninism, it was intended to scientifically accompany and advance the development of the "uniform socialist education system" in the GDR. The seat was the building Unter den Linden / Wilhelmstraße of the former Prussian Ministry of Culture, immediately next to and connected to the new building of 1964 for the Ministry of Education.
