Pioneering electronic music and instruments research and creation lab (also known as EMS) founded in 1969 by Tristram Cary, Peter Zinovieff and David Cockerell.
The company's first commercial synthesiser, the VCS3 (nicknamed "The Putney"), was launched in 1969, followed by the Synthi series in the 1970s. The instruments were used by various pioneering electronic music artists and prominent rock bands of the 1970s.
