BYRRH

BYRRH is a wine-based aperitif (18% vol.) from France and tastes bitter-bitter-sweet. It is advertised as Vin au quinquina, wine with Chinese bark. China bark has nothing to do with China, but with quina, the active ingredient quinine, which gives the aperitif a bitter note. It is a mixture of red wine (usually from the Carignan grape), flavored with tonic water, extracts of Chinese bark, spices from the Languedoc-Roussillon region such as gentian and chamomile as well as other spices such as cinnamon, bitter orange peel, kalumba, Coffee and cocoa.
