The Art Of The Improv Trio
Настоящее имя: The Art Of The Improv Trio
The Art Of The Improv Trio is an album series by Brazilian saxophonist Ivo Perelman in collaboration with drummers Gerald Cleaver / Whit Dickey and various guest soloists, recorded in 2015-16 mainly at Park West studios in Brooklyn, NY, and released by Leo Records in September 2016. Six volumes are accompanied by extensive liner notes by Neil Tesser and invited trio members, and feature Ivo Perelman's paintings on the front cover.
Perelman has been collaborating with Leo Records for over two decades – he debuted in 1997 on Leo Lab with Sad Life, a free improv collaboration with William Parker and Rashied Ali, and soon graduated to Leo's 'main' catalog, producing numerous albums in the following years, both solo and in various ensembles.
All parts in the series, except Volume 2, are recorded with a renowned American drummer Gerald Cleaver. Cleaver works with Perelman since 2010 and appeared on several projects critically important to Ivo's artistic development, also playing in Ivo Perelman Quartet. There are two piano trios, The Art Of The Improv Trio Volume 1 with Karl Berger and The Art Of The Improv Trio Volume 3 with Matthew Shipp, another Perelman's long-standing 'partner in crime,' viola trio with Mat Maneri, and Volume 4 with bassist William Parker. American guitarist and bassist Joe Morris appears twice in The Art Of The Improv Trio, playing electric guitar on Volume 5, and bass on Volume 6, which was recorded live at Manhattan Inn, New York City, NY in July 2016.
