Label founded as J.V.B. in 1948 in Detroit, Michigan by Joe Von Battle. Changed name to Battle in 1962 and operated until 1966. Specializing in gospel music, the label also released music of the folk, jazz, country, and blues genres as well as recordings featuring automobile sound effects.
