American-owned digital media streaming service. Founded: 24 August 1997 in California, USA. Initially operating only in the US as a postal DVD rental service of both movies and TV, Netflix began a first-of-its-kind VOD (video on demand) streaming service, and was soon followed by the plethora of others into the video streaming marketplace. Operating globally, it remains having the largest international subscription audience of any streaming film and television service of its kind.
