The Quintessence

Series of Frémeaux & Associés. It started 1994 and issued 2-CD jazz compilations. Each set is dedicated to one of the jazz greats (Armstrong, Ellington, Basie, Reinhardt, ...). The series is directed by Alain Gerber who usually writes liner notes (though newer releases from 2002 onward include a shorter introduction by Gerber and a longer text by a second writer). In French, with translations to English also included (though Gerber's intros are untranslated on newer releases).
