History:
In 1937 Erik Ølgaard established the first Danish record label and record manufacturer TONO in Copenhagen. They only produced records with Danish artists with their own cutting and press equipment together with Fa. Plastica A/S. In the beginning, HMV pressure matrices were prepared, but in 1940 the company delivered 'Fonofilm', a complete Danish recorder with cutting head for the production of TONO-matrices and master plates. They had raw materials (from Plastica A/S) and could as sole supplier make plates throughout World War II.
In 1945 TONO was taken over by the Schou Group. In 1952, the production of 78 t. shellac started to move towards 33 1/3 and 45 t. standard and the 78 shellacs disappeared more and more until the end of the 1950's.
