Danish cathedral located in the ancient city of Ribe, also known as Vor Frue Maria Domkirke. Founded in 860 during the viking era as the first Christian church in Denmark by the German monk Ansgar, the first stone of the current building was laid in 1110 and completed in 1134. As it stands today, the cathedral is the best preserved Romanesque building in Denmark. From 1939 to his death in 1952, the late-Romantic composer Rued Langgaard served as an organist in the cathedral.
