A complete series of Bach's Sacred Cantatas issued by [a1539849] under the direction of Masaaki Suzuki, using periodical instruments. Originally released as 55 CDs and SACDs recorded at Kobe Shoin Women's University Chappel, Japan. The series was reissued as a set of 55 SACDs and also as digital files, including Hi-Res (studio) versions. Begun in 1995, this series was initially greeted with incredulity – a complete cantata cycle recorded with Japanese performers in Japan? Already by the first instalments, however, reviewers were impressed by the performances as well as the interpretations, and as the final volume was released, in November 2013, the series was established as one of the most highly praised of all similar cycles.
