Edinburgh, Empire Theatre

Theatre and entertainment venue in Edinburgh. Originally built around 1892, it was mainly used as a variety, musical and opera house until 1963. After that time, it became a bingo hall with bands appearing there in the 70s, but only after 11pm, once the bingo sessions had finished. A large scale renovation and remodeling took place in the 90s with the glass-fronted theatre re-opening in 1994, but now known as the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. Despite the modern frontage, the interior still retains many of the art nouveau and neo-classical stylings of the previous incarnations of the old Edinburgh Empire.
