Australian branch of The Gramophone Co. Ltd., England established in 1925 (please do not confuse)
Record manufacturing operations were intially based at the company's factory in the Sydney suburb of Erskineville in New South Wales.
In 1931 Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. (EMI) is formed through the merger of Columbia Graphophone Company Ltd. and The Gramophone Co. Ltd. Following the merger the recorded music operations of the company were merged with Columbia Gramophone Co. Ltd. Austrailian subsidiary Columbia Graphophone (Aust.) Ltd. and both companies brought together under one administrative control with the record production plant being centralised at "Columbia's" Homebush factory. The first Australian made "His Masters Voice" radio recievers were manufactured in 1936 at Homebush, and the recording of radio transcriptions for broadcasting commenced.
In 1948 proprietary company E.M.I. (Australia) Pty. Limited is formed to takeover the activities of these two branches and becomes the principal company behind Electric & Musical Industries Ltd. Australian operations.
