The Air Mail Recordings was started in 1998 by Hiroshi Kuse, who at that time worked in Japanese publishing company named Oricon Co. Ltd., as a music magazine editor. Oricon Co. Ltd. is a well known company in the Japanese music industry, are called “Japanese Billboard Magazine”.
He set up Air Mail Recordings in his apartment in Suginami-ku, Tokyo, and started the label for international rock/pop acts.
First release was “A Tale Of Gin And Salvation” by US power pop act, The Loveless (former Candy, Electric Angels).
In 2001, Air Mail Archive is newly started as a subsidiary of Air Mail Recordings. Air Mail Archive is a label for the classic rock/pop album re-issues mainly.
Also Nice Folks is started as a label for veteran rock/pop artists’ brand new materials and unreleased.
In 2002, Air Mail Recordings started to arrange some Japan tours for their roosters release promotion. They worked for The Rubinoos, 20/20, Shoes, The Records, The Spongetones, The Flashcubes, The Pleasers, Colin Hare (ex. Honeybus), Craig Nuttycombe (ex. Lambert & Nutycombe) ...
Air Mail Recordings spread their wings widely and keep active in the Japanese music industry. Nowadays, they are well known as “one of the Best Independent Japanese Label for International Acts”.
