Nacionālo Bruņoto spēku Štāba orķestris or Nacionālo Bruņoto spēku orķestris (NBS orķestris too), literally "National Armed Forces Orchestra", is the main Military Band of the Republic of Latvia. It traces its roots in December of 1991 when a group of musicians started to schedule concerts in their spare time and receiving for that a formal appreciation by the Minister of the Culture of the Republic of Latvia, composer Raimonds Pauls. On January 3rd of 1992 — also in order to substitute the old Band of the Baltic Military District (Baltijas kara apgabala štāba pūtēju orķestris) that was a Military Band of the Soviet Army then stationed in Latvia — the orchestra began to work officially as the Orchestra of the Latvian National Armed Forces. Its first CD "Latvijas Republikas Nacionālo bruņoto spēku Ceremoniju mūzika" was released on February 15th of 1999; the second CD "Impresijas" had been released in 2001 and the third CD "Dziesmu Saule" has been released on June 2007. The Orchestra of the Latvian National Armed Forces participates into many International Military Festivals in many countries such as Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The orchestra performs at all official state ceremonies and protocol events for foreign diplomats.
