A multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, engineer, and the founder and President of Good Child Music, a record label, publishing, and production company based in Nashville, TN. He also lived in New York, owned and operated a recording studio since 2007, when he purchased a full studio from Sony Music Studios, NYC, for whom he was working on a project-basis at the time. The studio was first commissioned in Studio C at Clinton Recording in NYC, where it remained until Clinton closed in 2010. The studio moved to Brooklyn in 2011, where it remained a successful business until he moved it and himself to Nashville in 2019. In the studio, Lawson has worked with artists such as Mike Elizondo, twenty one pilots, Shania Twain, Shakira, Brittany Howard, Jamie xx, Ben Folds, Blues Traveler, The Band Perry, Lake Street Dive, Gil Scott-Heron, Santigold, Chromeo, A-Trak, Easy Life, My Brightest Diamond, Bryce Dessner, Kronos Quartet, Andrew Wyatt, Tony Trischka, David Lang, John Zorn, yMusic, Zeena Parkins (Bjork), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), So Percussion, Matmos, Alarm Will Sound, International Contemporary Ensemble, ACME, NOW Ensemble and many others. His compositions and arrangements can be heard in films and on TV commercials, and on many of the records of the artists with whom he collaborates. As a percussionist, Lawson has been a member of So Percussion and Alarm Will Sound, performed regularly with the Nashville Symphony, Alabama Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic, as well as with Robert van Sice, Matmos, Zakir Hussain and many others. As a drummer he performed with Chromeo, Matmos, Shugo Tokumaru, Grand Ole Opry star Connie Smith, and his current project JKLoL with songwriters Kristin Andreassen, Jefferson Hamer and Lauren Balthrop. As a multi-instrumentalist, Lawson frequently plays pedal steel, guitar, bass, keys / synths, drums / percussion and sings on records he produces.
