Born in Leipzig, was a member of the Thomanerchor and studied singing at the University of Music in Dresden and at the HdK Berlin. He attended courses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and was a winner of the BDI competition for song duos in Frankfurt / M. In addition to various stage activities, he made a name for himself primarily as a concert singer and song interpreter. Appearances in the European Abroad, in the Middle East and in Asia, in many renowned concert halls with well-known conductors, choirs and orchestras, as well as at the Berlin Festival, the Weimar Art Festival, the Gustav Mahler Music Week in Toblach and others, with radio and television recordings in the Rias, SFB , NDR, WDR, MDR and Deutschland-Radio, with CD productions (Thorofon, Signum, Caprico, cpo) testify to his diverse artistic activity. Markus Köhler has been a professor of singing at HfM Detmold since 1992 and a member of the DAAD commission in Bonn since 2014.
