Oscar Knaub (1866, village of Vershinka (Kauts), Kamyshinsky District, Saratov Province - 1920, Moscow), musical figure, composer. From an early age he had a penchant for music. After graduating from the Saratov music classes, he devoted himself to music teaching in Samara, where he earned great popularity. Living in Samara, in order to develop musical art, in 1906 he opened a shop for cheap foreign musical publications. In the same period, he contributed a lot to the spread of the waltz "On the Hills of Manchuria", which later became popular. In 1906, in the Samara City Garden, a waltz by I.A. Shatrov / Илья Шатров "Moksha regiment on the hills of Manchuria". However, he was indifferently received by the public. Knaub helped "polish" the waltz and publish its musical notation. Soon recognition came to Ilya Shatrov, and the waltz began to spread rapidly throughout Russia. Not satisfied with teaching in the provinces, in 1908 Knaub moved to Moscow, where he was engaged in publishing and composing. Author of over 60 waltzes, as well as romances, patriotic choirs. The most popular were the waltzes "Tears of Sicily" and "May Dream".
