Swedish composer, conductor and pianist, born 5 June 1879 in Långserud, died 2 April 1950 in Stockholm. He became a student at the Royal Conservatory of Music in 1897, graduated there, studied composition for Johan Lindegren and stayed 1903-1904 with a state scholarship in Paris and 1905-1907 as a Jenny Lind Fellow in Berlin, where James Kwast was his teacher of piano. In 1907 Wiklund volunteered as a conductor in Karlsruhe, in 1908 as a rehearsal performer at the Berlin court opera and in 1911 became the second conductor at the Royal Theater in Stockholm, where he was regarded as a competent conductor. In 1921 he had the privilege of conducting two concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic. In 1915 he became a member of the Royal Academy of Music. Wiklund was conductor at the Concert Association 1925-38 and until his death participated regularly as a conductor and pianist in Swedish Radio. Through this mediation, he was invited in 1937 to orchestral concerts on English radio. For a number of years he also worked as a highly regarded pianist. His collective production consists of a symphony, two piano concertos, a string quartet, a violin sonata, songs and piano pieces.
