DJ Djungl

Andrey’s DJ career has started about 15 years ago, when he had his first gig on tape cassettes at a scout camp «Artek». While still being a teenager, Djungl has already had two passions — music and new technologies, and these addictions let him be one of the people who were standing at the roots of the Russian club and dancing culture. Acquaintance with Leon Bell has turned into a life-long friendship and parallel careers. In the beginning of the 90-s, Andrey and Leon have opened a club for young people, joined with one passion for music and dancing. The name of the club was «New Generation Club». The most memorable projects of those years were a series of radio shows devoted to dance music on Smena radio station, «Ambient Trance Invasion» parties at club King (those let the guys buy their first turntables), residency at MDM club and participation in the legendary «Party Zone» show on TV6 channel. However, the most striking events were the parties at Hippopotamus club. Each Wednesday about a thousand people gathered at a venue capacity 500 to listen to the best electronic music on a non-commercial day. The series was called «History» and has given birth to a whole generation of clubbers. A huge step for Russian dance music was the opening of a radio station «106,8». Djungl has had his first set on «106,8» on a day of its opening and continued working there till the last day of its existence. Late 90-s were generous on the openings of new clubs and the best two of them were opened with Andrey's help. Together with German Synergy Club Agency he has created the concept of the «Virus» club. It had a totally sensational design and concept. The snow-white walls (1000 square meter space) served as screens for video art work, paying its two cents to the unique atmosphere of each party. In 1999 Andrey became the promoter of the «Propaganda» and «Gramophone» clubs. DJ's from all over the world have visited Gramophone with their sets thanks to Andrey's and his colleague's Francesca Canty's activity. Still being highly interested in the new technologies, Andrey starts to work at the largest Russian web-design company — «Art. Lebedev». The experience he gained there let Andrey to open www.housemusic.ru — the on-line home for house music DJ community in December 1999. Andrey went on his European tour in 2000 and had gigs at Parisian clubs «Rex» and «WAGG» and at the opening of «Butterfly» (Brussels). Also he has been to almost all the big cities of Russia and CIS. Being a huge fan of new technologies, Andrey has become one of the first DJ' who used computers in their sets. The Final Scratch technology, allows him to be more of a musician than an ordinary DJ. Today, having his own graphic and web-design company, Andrey Djungl combines numerous tours with creating his own music. Next step on dance music stage is going to be setting up an electronic label.
