Craig Calfee

American author, artist, fabricator, machinist & acknowledged bicycle frame builder. Attended Pratt Institute in New York. Moved to the west coast and San Francisco in 1988. Joined Survival Research Laboratories soon thereafter and was a machinist & creative builder for Survival Research Laboratories until 1994. In 1991 cyclist Greg LeMond rode the first all carbon fiber frameset in the 1991 Tour de France. The frameset was built by Craig Calfee who built his first carbon bike in 1987. Craig Calfee launched bicycling frame manufacturer company Carbonframes in 1989 and Calfee Design in 1997. Gained further attention for bamboo bike frame that went retail in 2005 and originated as gimmick for a trade show in 1995.
